Gabriela Mateescu is a feminist artist who lives and works in Bucharest with performance, video-performance, installation, drawing throughout she discusses her personal experience, her interest in the sociality of art and the constant exchange of information that keeps the feeding of ideas running among a collective  of people. As part of this creative process she initiated the group Nucleu 0000, whose main goal is to promote her generation of friends and fellow artists through a common effort of generating innovative ways of expressing after they felt unrepresented in the contemporary art scene. The last number of the group name changes with every event, thus showcasing a permanent change of the artists involved.

Gabriela Mateescu sees the communication network among her fellow artists as a growing work of art, an evolving system, touching other people, instead of being a stable frozen object.

Gabriela graduated the Graphics Department at the National University of Arts in Bucharest and taught from 2013 to 2016 visual communications at the National University of Arts. For one year she was the program coordinator at the Center of Visual Arts - multimedia center in Bucharest (August 2013-2014), alongside taietzel ticalos, where they ran an artist run space dedicated to promote students and young graduates of arts faculties, proposing a series of reflections that question the situation of the young generation of artists and their positioning in the local artistic scene. This space was a materialization of the project Nucleu 0000 that started in the same year and has been running since.

She started to work with a local support group of women artists Local Goddesses from 2015 after the cultural space Platforma - National Museum of Contemporary Art Annex was dissolved and then they took the Center for Visual Arts for a collaborative curatorial project, showcasing multimedia women artists. The space is owned by the Union of Artists in Romania.

Gabriela adopts the avatar Anastasia Manole for her works online that intensively uses stock footage. She works with images that are available on a fast google search or youtube videos utilizing basic skills of montage and editing, sometimes more elaborated, but deliberated sketchy, unfinished to make a subjective commentary on how art has become again a craft that imitates better reality. Focusing on creating a redrafted pleasing image she operates with elements of her common use -that is mainly happening on line - like selfies, web wide searched images, the culture of social media and her academical art education to activate a psychedelic vibrant colored new universe where the artificial skills are no longer needed and the use of game and pleasure is in control. Anastasia’s work display a wide range of topics and themes rooted in self referential exploration, she shifts between spontaneous displays of feminism and remixable data.

"10. Ideas can be works of art; they are in a chain of development that may eventually find

some form. All ideas need not be made physical. "

Paragraphs on Conceptual Art - Artforum (June, 1967)

Sol Lewitt

"To be a teacher is my greatest work of art. The rest is the waste product, a demonstration. If you want to express yourself you must present something tangible. But after a while this has only the function of a historic document. Objects aren't very important any more. I want to get to the origin of matter, to the thought behind it."

Joseph Beuys
