TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT
Performance with Marina Oprea at Almissa Open Art festival, Omis Croatia 2018
As the shadows of Plato’s cave, Two wrongs make a right is a performance containing movement, sound and the absence of light in order to create an immersive space for the viewers. Visitors are introduced in groups in a completely darkened room; the performers move along the walls. The audience cannot see anything, yet they can hear a voice that declares what art is, collected from various manifestos, distorting the reality of what it means to be an artists and creator. As the public stands in the dark they might muse on which of these statements projects any sense of certainty, while the performers chase each other in the search for light. The never-ending pursuit for the truth that is accidental and aimless, reminds one of a competition to catch whoever holds the truth. The performance is durational and is meant to last till the last person enters the dark room.
Perception is subjective and science, beyond its achievements, has never been more disregarded. The Enlightenment`s anthropocentrism, that men is the measure of the world it has become prevalent now. With the spread of internet, but also other mass communication technologies, custom news arrive to people, so they can select only the part they suit themselves. The truth seems so accessible, recognizable, self-evident that you can not argue with anyone, bringing their own “rational arguments”. Everyone owns the truth, and will not be convinced otherwise. The easy access to whatever information suits you, creates alternatives worlds for people to live according to their beliefs.

The material conditional (also known as material implication, material consequence, or simply implication, implies, or conditional) is a logical connective (or a binary operator) that is often symbolized by a forward arrow “→”. The material conditional is used to form statements of the form p → q (termed a conditional statement) which is read as “if p then q”. Unlike the English construction “if… then…”, the material conditional statement p → q does not specify a causal relationship between p and q. It is merely to be understood to mean “if p is true, then q is also true” such that the statement p → q is false only when p is true and q is false. The material conditional only states that q is true when (but not necessarily only when) p is true, and makes no claim that p causes q.
